Welcome to Body Culture Revolution!

Oct 23, 2026

Hi there,

This is Stephanie Smith, Psy.D., clinical health psychologist and founder of Body Culture Revolution. I'm delighted to welcome you to our community.

I created BCR because I know that, with the right tools and teachers, transforming your relationship with food and body is far more accessible than most people think.

Over the years I’ve met with hundreds of people carrying the burden of diet culture on their shoulders and in their bodies. One thing remains the same: No matter who you are, a better tomorrow is waiting for you.

You’ve already taken a small action to show up for yourself differently. Even an action as small as signing up for an audio experience or a newsletter is notable and something I hope to honor.

Who I am and Why I do this work

When I was growing up I had pages of rules I’d internalized from our culture that I thought would keep me safe. I learned to always take the smallest piece, never use two pieces of bread, and that girls are supposed to like fruit, they don’t eat peanut butter.

I didn’t make these rules up on my own, and I didn’t live by them because I loved being controlling. They were a survival strategy. Society taught me “good girls” are small and always put others before themselves. “Bad girls” take up space, and they are punished. If I wanted to be safe, I had to keep myself small in every sense of the word.

It took years for me to uncover the truth: that promised safety is an illusion. We are constantly told that joy and security are just one more diet, one more procedure, or one smaller size away. In reality, the machine of Diet Culture thrives on us feeling perpetually inadequate. The finish line where we are finally safe enough or good enough is a mirage that simply does not exist.

I am here because I know somewhere there is a 5 year old sucking in her stomach in a kindergarten hallway. I am here because that 5 year old was me over 30 years ago. Our body culture today looks more like it did in 1980 than it did in 2020. We are moving backwards and we need a change. We need a Revolution. I am here to welcome you to that. Welcome to the Body Culture Revolution.
